ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia Department of Education wants to spend up to $3.6 million on bonuses for high-quality educators willing to relocate to rural areas of the state.
Superintendent John Barge will ask the state Board of Education during a meeting Wednesday to approve the measure. The money would come from the state's $400 million Race to the Top federal grant.
The money would be distributed to districts across the state to cover bonuses and relocation costs for educators. In exchange, the districts must promise to improve student performance.
The deadline for districts to apply for the money is March 8.
