ATLANTA (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a 39-year-old man to more than 17 years in prison for charges related to sex trafficking of a minor.

U.S. District Judge Orinda D. Evans sentenced Marcelo Alejo Desautu of Atlanta on Wednesday. His sentence is in addition to the time he has been in custody since 2009.

Prosecutors say Desautu agreed to take care of a friend's 12-year-old daughter, and gave the girl alcohol and drugs then arranged for her to engage in sexual acts with adult males for money.

They say Desautu took the money the men paid to the girl and used it to buy drugs for him and her. They say Desautu also had sex with the girl.

Desautu pleaded guilty to the charge in January.
