ATLANTA - Authorities say a 59-year-old former leader of a Ku Klux Klan chapter was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for seeking to have sex with two teenage girls.

Neal Ray Schmidt was sentenced Thursday after he pleaded guilty to driving from St. Louis to Georgia for what he hoped would be a sexual encounter with two 14-year-old girls he met online.

He arranged to drive to a motel near McDonough in June 2010 to meet the two, and was arrested in the motel parking lot. Officials say he was carrying guns, KKK paraphernalia and sex toys and supplies.

Prosecutors say Schmidt is the former Grand Dragon for the Missouri chapter of the KKK.
