A K-9 officer has likely saved the life of a missing elderly woman.

According to multiple media outlets, Rockdale Healthcare Center reported an 83-year-old woman missing to Conyers police late Monday night. Officer Kim Lucas says sheriff's deputies and police began searching the area shortly after midnight, and fears mounted that the woman might succumb to hypothermia.

Conyers Police K-9 "Officer Eddie" and his handler, Officer Myra Scruggs, responded to the scene early Tuesday morning. Lucas says the 3-year-old Belgian Malinois soon located the missing woman in an area that had already been searched.

Officers say the woman was on the ground, soaking wet, unable to get up and was very confused.

Scruggs says the woman may not have been found if it weren't for the K-9.
