ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police say a woman who was attacked by a Siberian lynx in the city's Buckhead neighborhood has been hospitalized.

Department spokesman Greg Lyon says police were called to a home after a woman said her friend had been attacked by the large cat Tuesday afternoon.

Lyon says the woman was bleeding heavily from her head and has been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Details on the woman's condition weren't immediately available.

Authorities say the owner of the Lynx was apparently out of town and made arrangements for their exotic pet to be fed while they were away. Lyon says the Lynx is in its cage and local animal control officials have been notified.
