SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A soldier was found dead after a standoff with police at a Savannah apartment complex.
Authorities told WTOC-TV (http://bit.ly/1FziH3s) an unidentified active duty Army member in his early 30s barricaded himself inside the Fenwick Village apartments threatening to kill himself Wednesday around 11:30 a.m.
A SWAT unit, hostage negotiators and firefighters responded to the scene and locked down the complex for several hours as police tried to make contact with the man. A SWAT team entered the apartment around 4 p.m. and found the man was already dead.
The Army is withholding his name until family members are contacted.
Students who lived in the area were kept at school until the threat was over.
