Man walks home after striking school bus

Newton County deputies arrived at the Riverside Mobile Home Park in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a school bus. The school bus driver, told the deputies that a white station wagon had backed into the passenger side of the bus while children were getting off of the bus near the front of the park.

The driver of the station wagon James Nix Jr. left the scene of the accident on foot and the bus supervisor chased after him.

When deputies made contact with Nix, he was sitting on his front porch and appeared to be under the influence of a substance. He was arrested.


Two men steal daughter's pink bicycle
When Covington police arrived at the scene of a theft, Adrienne Mack told the officers that she saw three black males steal her daughter's pink bicycle and head east on Carlton Trail.

The officers located two black males riding bicycles east on Carlton Trail. The officer told the males to stop. One of the males Travis Pridget, took off running; however, the officer was able to apprehend him.

Jeremy Howard was arrested and charged with two counts of theft by taking. Pridget was arrested and charged with two counts of theft by taking and obstruction of an officer.


Dirty bathroom sparks fight between brother and sister
When Covington police arrived at the scene of an assault, Wendell Kelly told officers that his sister Paula Davis, busted his lip and bit him on the stomach. The officer noted Kelly smelled of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet and was slurring his speech.

Kelly said that he and Davis were arguing about the bathroom being dirty. When Kelly asked his sister to clean the bathroom, she became angry and attacked him. Kelly showed officers a bite mark on his stomach and his cut lip. He also had abrasions on the left side of his face and right arm.

When officers spoke with Davis, she said that Kelly had been verbally abusive calling her names and telling her to go back to her husband. When he kept picking on her, Davis knocked him down and the two began fighting. Davis had cuts on her face and small abrasions on her left arm.

Davis' five-year-old daughter told the officer that she heard her mom and Uncle "Peanut" cussing at each other and then began fighting.

Both Kelly and Davis were arrested and charged with simple battery and cruelty to children in the third degree. In addition, Kelly was charged with public intoxication.
