Newton County Commissioner John Douglas has returned to work at Georgia Perimeter College after he was placed on paid administrative leave following Douglas' admission that he wrote a racially derogatory and sexist comment on Facebook.
A spokesperson for the college confirmed that Douglas had returned to work, but was not able to offer further comment or details.
Douglas came under fire last month after a televised news report revealed that he wrote under a photo of a black woman abusing the American flag, "She is just a cheap, street walker knee grow who lays down for white men."
Douglas has since apologized.
While some local residents have expressed support for Douglas, several local African American organizations, Congressman Hank Johnson, the local Democratic Party and fellow Commissioner Lanier Sims have called on him to resign. A recent Board of Commissioners meeting was dominated by local citizens who insisted he must step down.
