District 2 Commissioner Earnest Simmons is sponsoring a free job workshop tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Newton County Historic Courthouse to assist residents looking for work.

The workshop is for any jobless or underemployed workers above the age of 16 and will teach residents how to search for jobs and prepare for job interviews.

Simmons said he and eight other Newton County residents, including Dr. J.J. Hayden and Dr. Lois Upham of J.J. Hayden Enterprises, will teach residents how to create and critique resumes, how and where to look for jobs, how to interview, how to set career goals and how to present one’s self. All presenters are donating their time.

Residents are advised to bring copies of their resume to be critiqued and maybe pen and paper to take notes. Reference materials will be provided.

Staples is also helping out by giving away coupons at the workshop for five free copies of a resume.
