FINAL ELECTION RESULTS: Newton voters say "no" to T-SPLOST, "yes" to amendments

COVINGTON, Ga. — More than 54% of Newton County voters voted against imposing a new 1% Transportation SPLOST Tuesday.

With all precincts reporting and all absentee and in-person advance votes counted, the unofficial totals showed 27,905 votes against the new sales tax and 23,226 for it..

However, two state constitutional amendments and a statewide referendum won "yes" votes in Newton County .

Totals of absentee and in-person advance votes showed:

Transportation SPLOST for Newton County

Yes – 23,226 votes, or 46%

No – 24,277 votes, or 54% 

Constitutional Amendment #1

Yes – 77% (winning with 81% statewide)

No – 23%

Constitutional Amendment #2

Yes – 71% (winning with 75% statewide)

No – 29%

Statewide Referendum A

Yes – 71% (winning with 72% statewide)

No – 29%
