COVINGTON, Ga. – Two inmates were charged late last year after authorities discovered an alleged drug deal inside the Newton County Jail.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, 39-year-old Erik Estrada Mobley of Alabama and 28-year-old Marquese Edwards of Porterdale were charged Dec. 30 after authorities learned of the transaction in the intake area.

A NCSO spokesman said an inmate worker was found in an unauthorized area and searched by a detention officer.  A note detailing a drug transaction was found on the worker.

According to the report, Edwards was charged with possession of meth and Mobley was charged with crossing guard lines with weapon, liquor or drugs.
