On April 3, at approximately 2:35 a.m. the Newton County 911 received a call in reference to a home invasion at the Salem Terrace Apartments on Salem Road in Newton County.

Newton County Sheriff’s Office units responded to the scene at 156-B Salem Terrace Apartments along with Newton EMS.

After investigation the following has been determined thus far:

The suspect, identified as Quintarious Damareo Reed, did come to Apartment 156-B Salem Terrace and made entry after one of the occupants in the apartment was walking out to their vehicle. Mr. Reed did confront and force that person back into the apartment at gun point. Once inside the apartment a physical altercation ensued. During the physical altercation one of the apartment occupants did produce a fire arm of their own and did shoot Mr. Reed.

Another occupant of the apartment then called 911. EMS and Deputies arrived at the scene.

Witnesses were interviewed by investigators of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office both at the scene and at the Sheriff’s Office.

Due to the witness interviews and evidence located at the scene there were no arrests made at this time.

The body of Mr. Reed was taken to the GBI Crime Lab by the Newton County Coroner’s Office where an autopsy has been performed. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

Evidence removed from the scene to be submitted to the GBI.

Once the investigation is complete it will be turned over to the Newton County District Attorney’s Office.
