Discount clothing store Bealls Outlet will open in Covington this fall, moving into the former Goody's location in Newton Plaza off U.S. Highway 278, which has been vacant for the past two years.
"With the relocation of the Belk to Conyers and the closing of the Goody's store, the people of Covington have had a need for good quality, name branded clothing at exceptional value," said Newton Plaza leasing agent John Brozovic.
Bealls spokesman Bill Webster said the company will hire between 15 and 24 workers, and prospective employees can apply on monster.com, by sending an email to outletcareers@beallsoutlet.com or by applying at the nearest Bealls.
Bealls is growing its presence in Georgia and has found good real estate prices in vacant Goody's locations. Webster said the 30,000-square-foot location in Covington was one of the most attractive sites the company looked at in the southeast. Bealls is headquartered in Florida, with locations in Arizona and Georgia.
Bealls offers brand name apparel and accessories for up to 70% off department store prices, according to its website, and Webster said the store is comparable to other discount clothing stores like T.J. Maxx.
Webster said Bealls buys merchandise from manufacturers' closeout sales, other retailers and from brand name companies in New York. The Covington location will have a full line of clothing, including juniors sizes, plus sizes and shoes, as well as home accessories.
The company will begin making interior improvements to the 30,000 square foot building the week of July 4, Brozovic said.
