Jackson Lake boat fire kills Monroe man

COVINGTON, Ga. - Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis confirmed the death of a Monroe man Sunday afternoon after a boat caught fire on Jackson Lake in Newton County. 

John Cecil Ashmead, 67, of Monroe, died in the incident. Davis said the cause and manner of death are pending based on autopsy results. 

The incident took place near Berry's Marina on Jackson Lake. 

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division is investigating the case.
