The Social Circle High School wrestling team took its undefeated record to the “Quad at the Rock” dual tournament at Rockdale High School December 19. SCHS lost for the first time all year 31-34 to Chattahoochee High School in its first match of the tournament. Despite the initial loss, the Redskins won their remaining two matches 72-6 over Berkmar and 47-21 over host Rockdale. The night ended with Chattahoochee winning the tournament and Social Circle finishing in second place.

SCHS Head Coach Randy Prater said, “We came into the tournament knowing that Chattahoochee was going to be tough. They are a 6-A school and they finished fourth in the state last year. Unfortunately, we wrestled very flat against them, and you simply can’t do that against a good team. I know the score was close but they really pounded us.”
Rockdale, Chattahoochee and Berkmar are all 6-AAAAAA schools. Social Circle is a 2-AA school.

On Saturday, December 20, the Redskins traveled to Heritage High School for the East Metro Duals. Seven schools competed (Coahulla Creek, Gainsville, Heritage, Lakeside, Rockdale, Social Circle and Woodland). SCHS was pooled with Lakeside, Coahulla Creek and Woodland.

The Redskins dominated their pool with a 64-13 win over Lakeside, 78-6 vs. Woodland and 74-6 performance over Coahulla Creek. Next Social Circle faced Heritage. The Patriots started off strong pinning SCHS in the first three bouts to take an 18-0 early lead, but then the Redskins responded by winning the next 11 weight classes which included seven pins to end the match 59-18. In the championship match, Social Circle beat Rockdale 54-12.

After the tournament on Saturday Prater commented, “I was very proud on how the team responded after their first loss of the season last night, but they looked like a different team today. It was great. We wrestled well, and won the tournament.”

The Redskins will take their 13-1 record to Walnut Grove where they will compete in the Walton County Duals on December 31.
