The Social Circle varsity wrestling team is continuing its march through the 2012-2013 season after taking first place at the Panther Invitational over the weekend, winning the Walton County Duals for the first time in school history this week.
All five county high school wrestling teams were in attendance at the annual dual event, including George Walton Academy, Loganville, Monroe Area, Walnut Grove and the Redskins.
The Redskins went 4-0 at the tournament, defeating both GWA and Walnut Grove by a perfect score of 84-0.
Social Circle dominated Loganville with a 78-0 win before clinching a 77-3 victory over Monroe Area to end its dominat dual run.
Monroe Area took second place with a 3-1 record, while Loganville placed third with a split 2-2 record.
Individual wins for the Redskins included victories by freshmen Josh Craig (106), Zack Kinnon (113), Stevie Howard (120) and Cade Lackey (138); sophomores Trey Paschal (113), Mitchel Clegg (126), Travis Tyson (132), David Engstrom (145) and Ryan Harris (182); juniors Chase Stevens (145), Aaron Forrester (152), Colton Stairs (182) and Jimmy Haynes (195); and seniors Ryan Davis (132), A.J. Howard (138), Jacob Noth (152), Justin Givens (160), Josh Tyson (160), Jeremy Tyson (170), Kurt Rix (182), Tevan Burkes (220), Joseph Eidison (220) and Eric Wilson (285).
Social Circle coach coach Randy Prater was very pleased with how his Redskins performed at the event.
“We tried to get everybody we could into a match today," Prater said. "We are very deep with many of our weight classes which makes it tough. ... They all want to wrestle, especially (against) cross-town schools, and are working very hard.”
This win extended the Redskins' record to 9-1.
