Social Circle city and school officials broke ground on the Redskins' new athletic complex Friday afternoon, ushering in a new era of Social Circle athletics.
The complex, which will span over 30 acres, will be a state-of-the-art $7.5 million facility that will feature a football field, a track, five tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, a weightroom and an edifice designed for baseball/softball batting practice that can also be used for football practices during inclement weather.
The facility will be used by both Social Circle High School and Social Circle Middle School.
The city purchased the land 25 years ago to be prepared in case of school expansion. The project will be completely paid for by the time it opens, said Social Circle Mayor Hal W. Daily.
