Social Circle football coaches and a small group of players wrapped up their annual Redskin youth camp Thursday a day after a rainout forced a three-hour session on the final day.

The lost day didn't seem to matter much to the 37 youngsters in attendance as they made they way through offensive and defensive drills crisply. Oh, and there were plenty of smiles to go around.

"This is good for everyone around here to get together and come out for something like this," Social Circle head coach David Seawright. "We have a great time with these kids. They love to do this stuff. I know they've been looking forward to it since last year."

Seawright and his coaching staff worked four groups of campers through four stations at a time. Each station taught either an offensive or defensive technique. After each group worked through each station, and after a much-deserved water break, the coaches changed the drills at each station for a round of new instruction.

Last year's camp drew 47 athletes. This year, the numbers were down slightly perhaps due to the economic hardships. Nevertheless, the campers took to instruction well.

Since Social Circle is a small program, it only has six coaches. Each coach has more than one responsibility and that diversity serves them well in a tight-knit group.

The camp culminated with touch football games and the always popular Slip 'N Slide races.

"Kids love to compete, even the younger ones," Seawright said. "We try to teach them to compete. The kids have fun and they get after it. Even the Slip 'N Slide they want to compete."
