Newton High School senior and former star softball player Kelsey Swinson signed a letter of intent to play at Fort Valley State University Tuesday.

Swinson will travel to the Macon area after choosing from colleges including Georgia Southwestern, Albany State, Emory University, Brewton Parker College and Emmanuel University, amongst others.

"I choose to attend Fort Valley State University because it was the closest to my home," Swinson said. "I enjoyed visiting the campus and talking to the coach and players as well."

Swinson has been playing softball for 13 years, stepping up to the challenge in each of those years. She enjoys the game because it challenges her to become a better athlete.

"It has been something I have always loved to do ever since I was a little girl," she said.

Swinson is currently undecided on what she is going to major in.

But the thing she is decided on doing while in school is playing softball. She is even hoping to one day play in the major leagues.
