Demetrius McCray was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the fourth pick of the seventh round (210 overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft Saturday.

He was the 26th corner back selected in the draft, and the second in the seventh round - both by the Jaguars.
According to draft analysis on McCray by espn.com, the former Appalachian State standout:

“has above-average size and flashed at the NFLPA all-star game. He has good length and quick feet, but he has some tightness and lacks an extra gar to recover when caught out of position. MCCray7 will step up in run support, and his best fit appears to be as a press corner.”

McCray was the third corner back selected overall by Jacksonville, following New Mexico State’s Jeremy Harris two picks earlier and Connecticut’s Dwayne Gratz in the third round.

Jacksonville also selected Luke Joeckel with the second-overall pick, free safety Jonathan Cyprien early in the second round and Denard Robinson, former quarterback at Michigan.

McCray is a 2009 graduate of Newton High, and was the Rams corner back and quarterback. In his senior season, McCray tallied seven interceptions, seven pass break ups, 40 tackles and a forced fumble on defense, and had 1,600 yards of total offense.

He had 55 tackles, four pass break ups and four interceptions at Appalachian state, where he earned fourth-team All-American recognition from Phil Steele Publications in 2011, and an All-Southern Conference selection in 2012.

McCray attends Appalachian State University and in his final season with the Mountaineers, he tallied 55 tackles, four pass break ups and four interceptions. In his high school senior year, McCray was named Newton County Athlete of the Year.

He played quarterback and defensive back and contributed 1,600 yards of total offense, seven interceptions, seven pass break ups, 40 tackles and a forced fumble. In 2011, McCray earned fourth-team All-America recognition from Phil Steele Publications according to NFL.com.
