For his efforts against the Rockdale County Bulldogs last week, Newton High sophomore DeAndre Huff has been named the Rams' Athlete of the Week.
Huff caught a pair of touchdown passes against the Bulldogs' defense, the first for 17 yards to tie the contest, and the second on a 36-yard catch and run that gave Newton a 21-14 lead.
Huff said that despite the loss to Rockdale County, the Rams still have playoff hopes on their minds.
"We're going to try to make it to the playoffs and go out there and have fun," Huff said. "We want to keep winning and eventually go to the championship game."
The sophomore wide receiver said that his favorite part of playing football is the physicality of the game.
"My favorite part of the game is when I get to run over folks and score," he said.
The Rams will return to action tonight against Lovejoy at 7:30 p.m.
Newton is 0-1 all time against the Wildcats, falling to Lovejoy 51-6 on the road last season.
