Lady Rams' rally falls short

The Lady Rams also dropped a tough decision at home on Tuesday night as they fell to Westlake by a 55-51 final.

The game started out roughly for Newton as they dug a very deep hole in the first half and trailed by 16 at halftime. The second half was a totally different story as the Lady Rams began to cut into the deficit. As the third quarter came to an end, they only trailed by 10. The surge continued into the fourth quarter as the Lady Rams got within two points before finally succumbing by four points.

Newton Head Coach Tiffani Johnson found a lot of positives in the defeat.

“Tonight we really battled hard after being down so many early,”  she said. “We continued to fight back and not shut down like we did in an earlier loss. Our effort was really good in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, we ran out of time.”

The Lady Rams were led offensively by Danyel Fourney who dropped in a season high 16 points. Precious Price and Emili Russ were also in double figures with 12 apiece and Mikola Burks added 7.

“Danyel stepped up and played like we have been expecting her to play,” added Johnson. “Emili battled hard like she always does and made a huge basket and free throw late in the game.”

The Lady Rams will travel to East Coweta on Friday and Alcovy on Saturday. The loss dropped their record to 10-3 (3-2 Region 2-AAAAA) on the season.  Coach Johnson finished up by saying, “We are still looking to put 4 quarters together and play a complete game. We need to take one quarter at a time and cut down on the turnovers.”
