Lady Rams compete at state meet

The Newton High Lady Rams cross country program competed this past weekend at the Georgia High School Association Class 6A State Cross Country Championships.

Newton finished 29th overall out of 30 total teams, scoring 927 overall points. Peachtree Ridge won the overall team title with 119 points, with Brookwood (131) and Marietta (151) placing second and third, respectively.

Maiya Newton led the Lady Rams with a 176th place finish in 24:38.58.

Newton was joined by teammates Riara Santon (24:39.96) and Genevie Antoine (26:01.17) in the top-200 finishers with 177th and 195th place finishes, respectively.

Desire' Griffin (26:48.36, 201), Brianna Hayden (26:55.96, 203), Ashley Jean-Baptiste (30:56.62, 207) and Alisha Carter (31:38.09, 209) also competed for the Lady Rams at the event.

Newton finished third overall at the Region 2 championship meet.
