Rashard Cabane and Rodarius Mitchell are two of Newton's top returning scorers from last season, and showed they will be a big part of the 2012-13 season at the Northeast Georgia Invitational in Madison County this week.

The Rams won the tournament with a 53-41 win over Hart County Tuesday behind Cabane and Mitchell.

After scoring nine points in Newton's 56-45 win over Stone Mountain Saturday, Mitchell had 14 against Hart, including three 3-pointers. Cabane scored 12 points in each game of the tournament, and averaged six rebounds a game, including seven in the tournament championship, and took two charges a game.

"Rashard was a real leader for us," Newton coach Rick Rasmussen said.

The Rams will play their first home game Friday when Jenkins comes to Newton.

"This tournament was a great opportunity for us to get our feet wet and get ready for a tough schedule after the break," Rasmussen said.

It was the second time Newton won the tournament at Madison County, with the first coming in Rasmussen's first year as head coach, also against Hart County, in 2006.
