Lovejoy rises, McEachern plummets in state poll

There was a shake-up at the top of the Georgia High School Football Class AAAAAA Associated Press poll this week, as McEachern dropped from the No. 2 spot into the bottom half of the top-10.

The Indians' move allowed Colquitt County, Lovejoy and Camden County to rise in the top five, whole North Cobb made the biggest jump of the week, moving three spots from No. 8 to No. 5.

North Gwinnett held onto the No. 1 spot with 17 first place votes, moving to 7-0 with a 41-0 shutout win over Habersham Central.

Cloquitt County moved up one spot to No. 2. The Packers defeated Brunswick last week 41-16, but have a match-up tonight against former poll member Valdosta.

The Lovejoy Wildcats entered the No. 3 position, up one spot from a week ago. The Wildcats continued their impressive run through Region 2 last week with a 51-7 win over Luella. Lovejoy takes on Newton tonight at Sharp Stadium for homecoming.

Camden County claimed the No. 4 spot in the poll, while North Cobb entered the top five, moving up three spots in the poll.

North Cobb sealed its position in the top five with a 28-26 victory over McEachern at home last week. The Warriors' win over the Indians moved North Cobb to 6-1 overall with an undefeated 5-0 mark in Region 4. The win was the first for North Cobb over McEachern since 2008.

Norcross held on to its sixth position in the poll with a 37-6 victory over Mountain View. The Blue Devils have not lost since falling to North Gwinnett on Sept. 13.

McEachern tumbled to the No. 7 position in the poll with the loss to North Cobb. The Indians are now 5-1 in region play after suffering their first loss of the season.

Archer continued its rise in the poll, moving from No. 10 a week ago to the eighth position this week. The Tigers are now 8-0 on the season after defeating Berkmar 37-7 last week.

Peachtree Ridge held onto its No. 9 spot after a bye week. The Lions take on No. 6 Norcriss this week on the road.

Collins Hill rejoined the top 10 this week after being unranked a week ago after falling to Norcross on Oct. 11. The Eagles defeated Meadowcreek 68-0 to regain a position in the poll. Collins Hill will square off against No. 1 North Gwinnett on the road tonight.
