COVINGTON, Ga. -- There was little movement in Class AAAA in the latest Georgia Sportswriters Association high school football rankings that came out Tuesday, meaning Eastside holds firm at No. 5 ahead of Friday night's 7:30 p.m. Region 4-AAAA matchup at Hampton.
The regular season finale could have historic implications for Eastside as, with a win, it can become the first Newton County football program ever to complete a perfect regular season in football.
The Hornets (4-5, 3-3) make for an intriguing final regular season hurdle for Eastside. A program in just its fifth year, Hampton has played admirably against some of the region's top teams, including a 32-17 loss to Salem and a 36-12 setback to Woodward Academy.
Hampton will be coming off the momentum of a 41-0 win against a Druid Hills team that Eastside defeated 56-0 back on October 18.
The No. 5 ranking is the highest ever for an Eastside team, and the nine consecutive weeks Eastside's spent in the top 10 rankings is the longest such streak in program history.
Take a look at how the rest of the GHSA top 10 rankings shook out.
