In front of a packed Eastside auditorium, Lady Eagles’ Nelia Dailey signed to play soccer at Albany State University.

Dailey penned her national letter of intent alongside friends and family as a large crowd of Eastside students looked on.

Following the signing, Dailey talked about her emotions and what she was thinking as she made her commitment official.

“I was really nervous, but I knew that God and everybody had my back. I had nothing to worry about,” Dailey said.

The connection between Dailey and Albany State arose through the seniors’ mother, who helped her find the school and begin the process.

In her junior season, Dailey was named to the 2023 All-Cov News Girls’ Soccer Team. Dailey also received Second Team All-Region honors for Region 8-AAAAA.

Dailey’s introduction into soccer came from her father.

“I started playing when I was three. My dad is from Costa Rica, so I learned about this game from him,” Dailey said. “I just went with it ever since then.”

As she looks ahead to playing at the next level, being able to play against top competition and knowing he has what it takes to play there are two things Dailey is looking forward to the most when she joins the Golden Rams.

Outside of her play on the pitch, Dailey also spoke about the type of person that the team will be getting.

“[They will be getting] a fantastic person,” Dailey said. “I am funny, kind, smart and caring.”
