Tigers send multiple to Sectionals after strong showing at region meet

LOGANVILLE, Ga. — Multiple Alcovy Tigers advanced through to sectionals with quality performances at the team’s region meet.

Alcovy competed at the Region 8-AAAAA meet at Loganville High School this past week and left with five first place medals.

On the Lady Tigers side, Samaria Wilburn captured first place in the girls’ high jump with a score of 5-0.

In the girls’ shot put, Janae’ Randall earned first place with a score of 35-0. Randall also claimed second place in the discus with 102-1.5.

Lauren Davis finished behind Randall in the shot put in fourth place(27-10.25).

Jada Henderson left the event with a pair of second place medals. Henderson finished in second place in both the girls’ 100-meter(12.42) and the 200-meter(26.12).

Desiree Turner followed in third place(12.69) in the 100-meter and fourth place(26.61) in the 200-meter.

Ramiyah Wheeler captured a pair of top placements in the girls’ hurdles.

Wheeler claimed second place(48.08) in the 300-meter hurdles and third(16.83) in the 100-meter hurdles.

Imani Mateen claimed fourth(17.35) in the 100-meter hurdles. Behind Wheeler in the 300-meter hurdles were Kassidy Scott and Kamora Wise, who finished in third(49.81) and fifth place(50.75), respectively.

The Lady Tigers had strong showings in all of the relay events.

The girls team took home second place in both the 4x100(49.27) and the 4x400(4:14.03) They went on to finish in third(1:46.69) in the 4x200 and sixth(11:24.84) in the 4x800.

In the girls’ long jump, Shaniya Hampton scored a 15-7 to finish in seventh place.

On the boys side, there were multiple first place medals in the sprint events.

Keith Gaines claimed first place in the boys’ 200-meter with a time of 21.72. Gaines also finished in second place in the 100-meter with a time of 10.89.

Jayden Nesbitt ran a 50.42 in the boys’ 400-meter to claim first place.

Nickolus Lumpkin finished behind Nesbitt in third place(22.58) in the 200-meter as well as seventh place(11.23) in the 100-meter.

The other first place medal came in the 4x200-meter relay, where the team ran a 1:28.51 to earn the top placement.

Alcovy’s boys team claimed second in the 4x400(3:28.37) and sixth in the 4x800(9:38.44).

Jacob Henderson took home fourth place in the boys’ high jump with a score of 5-10.

In the boys’ 300-meter hurdles, Gavin Rasheed earned fifth place with a time of 41.76. Rodney McClendon followed Rasheed in sixth place with a time of 42.25.

Shawn Blaise claimed fifth place in the boys’ long jump with a score of 19-4.
