One Conyers man is dead and another in jail after a dispute boiled over into a shoot-out at the Lakeview Estates area on Tuesday night.

Devaill McCoy, 31, of Lakeshore Drive is facing a charge of Voluntary Manslaughter.

The victim has been identified as Darius Reid, 27, of Conyers.

Deputies with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call just before 10 p.m. of a person shot at 32 Lakeshore Drive.

The caller told dispatchers that he had just shot a man.

When the deputies arrived, they found a person, later identified as Reid, shot and unresponsive in the caller’s front yard.

Deputies put the caller, McCoy, in custody. McCoy did not resist being placed in custody and told deputies that he had shot Reid.

"They had had a history of arguing," said RCSO Investigator Michael Camp. "It escalated last night with them shooting at each other."

Based on evidence at the scene and information obtained during the initial investigation, both parties shot multiple times at each other in the front yard following an argument.

Reid was shot twice, struck once in the chest and once in the stomach, and died at the scene as a result of the gunshots.

McCoy was not struck but his residence was shot multiple times. McCoy's brother was reportedly inside at the time but not involved in the dispute. McCoy is currently being held in the Rockdale County Jail.

This is still an active investigation and additional charges are possible.
