Rockdale residents will now have another local and affordable health care resource with the opening of Oakhurst Medical Center and View Point Health combined in one facility on Taylor Street.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday with several government and healthcare officials on hand to christen the new facility, which has already provided behavioral and physical care to 196 Rockdale residents since opening.

Oakhurst and View Point Health (formerly the Gwinnett-Rockdale-Newton Community Service Board) will provide integrated behavioral and physical health care to under-served county residents at the J.P. Carr Center.

Oakhurst Medical Centers, Inc., a nonprofit, community-based health care center, was awarded a $441,667 federal grant to fund the project and to better assist the county’s under-served citizens.

“This is indeed a dream come true,” Rockdale County Commission Chairman Richard Oden said Friday. “Today, Oakhurst and View Point Health and Rockdale County will be able to provide a full-service opportunity for health services to our entire community.”

Oakhurst Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Taylor and Frank Berry, View Point Health’s Chief Executive Officer, formed the partnership in order to provide ‘whole person’ care. With this, the combined location allows their physicians and psychiatrists to coordinate care and ensure complementary treatments are provided.

Oakhurst Medical Centers is providing adult medicine, family medicine, pediatric and adolescent health care, women’s healthcare, and foot care/podiatry to the entire Rockdale community.

View Point Health provides adult outpatient services and promotes overall health and quality of life through treatment services that reduce the impact of mental illness and substance abuse for individuals and families. The outpatient program is aimed at enhancing psychological and social functioning.

Located at 977 Taylor Street in Conyers, View Point Health can be reached by calling (678) 209-2655 and Oakhurst can be reached at (404) 298-8998. Walk-ins are also welcome.
