Rockdale County announced the county's human resources director, Arthur Reese, resigned effective on June 5.

Reese became an employee of Rockdale County on December 21, 2007 and will receive severance pay equivalent to four weeks of his annual salary.

“We appreciate Mr. Reese’s time of service to Rockdale County,” said Chairman Richard Oden. “We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Janet Rutledge, the current deputy director of Human Resources, will oversee the department until further notice with support from Rockdale County Chief of Staff RJ Hadley as needed during the interim, according to a statement released by the county Tuesday.

The county recenty fired its newly hired deputy human resources director, Chris Corey, after it learned Corey was arrested for charges relating to the misuse of government purchase cards while he was employed with the city of Smyrna.

Reese said the interview panel that reviewed Corey’s record was aware that the city of Smyrna had fired him for allegedly improperly utilizing a city purchasing card, but was not aware of the extent of the allegations against him.
