It's always nice to write about a local person who has gone off and made a name for himself and then returns to his hometown to invest in its future.

Chef Curtis Aikens, who grew up in Conyers and started his career at the old Conyers A&P and has since become a noted food author and a personality for the Food Network, has come home to open a fresh organic food market in Rockdale County.

There was a story of this new venture in last week's News. If you missed it, you can read it on www.rockdalenews.com.

The Market Conyers, located at 1180 Highway 138, will feature fresh organic food and meats.

Aikens' partners in this venture are locals Bill Hope and Buck Vaughn.

Aikens is looking forward to being involved in the community and will start writing a food column for the News which begins this week.

We believe in supporting our local merchants; the money that you as a consumer spend in your community goes a long way in keeping your taxes down.

Welcome home Chef Curtis.
