Larry F. Smith of Covington, died April 14, 2009, at the age of 70. Born in Spalding County to the late Jeff and Ina Ruth Kinnett Smith, he served in the Army and the Coast Guard as a radio operator from 1958-1964. Mr. Smith worked for the post office for 8 years. A member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, his music and his church was most important to him. In addition to the mandolin and bass, Mr. Smith could also play most any string instruments; and especially enjoyed playing blue grass, gospel, and country music. Mr. Smith would play at two of the local assisted living homes once a month, and played every weekend with his groups here in the county. He enjoyed camping and attending blue grass festivals. Survivors include his wife, Betty (Hunt) Smith; son and daughter-in-law, David and Gail Smith; grandchildren, Cindy Walls, Kristy Walls, Jessica Smith; great-grandchildren, Michael, Trece’, Isaiah, Matthew, Raven, Zachary, Zowie, all of Covington. Funeral Services for Mr. Smith will be held at Solid Rock Baptist Church, 8111 Brown Bridge Rd., Saturday, April 18, 2009, 2:00 PM, with Pastor Mike Franklin officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., Friday, April 17, from 5-8 PM. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Solid Rock Baptist Church Building Fund.
