Hazel Haggard Cordell, of Covington, passed away April 19, 2015, at the age of 89. Born to Charles and Willie Mae (Parks) Haggard, Hazel attended school in Porterdale. She lived next door to the school and could run home at recess time to get fresh baked sweet potatoes, one for the teacher and one for herself. This was a happy time for her. An employee of Scientific Atlanta, she wired the first printed circuit board ever to be wired in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her children, John Robert Russell and Jackquelyn Ann Russell.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Wilburn and Donna Russell, Charles Samuel (Chuck) and Rhonda Russell, Harold Zachary (Zach) and Cathy Russell; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hazel once wrote, “Times were not always easy, but praise the Lord for the blessings of children. I am proud of all of them and their achievements.”
A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2015, 11 a.m., at Covington City Cemetery, Davis Street, in Covington, with Pastor Tommy Ross officiating.
