Cary Barnett Allgood of Oxford, GA died Thursday October 14, 2010 at Abbey Hospice. He was born on August 22, 1923 in Oxford, Ga to Carl Samuel and Etta Wiley Allgood. He served during WWII as a pilot in the Army Air Force in the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of the Oxford Lions Club, American Legion, was a Scout Master, and was the longest serving member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church in Oxford. He was retired as Post Master in Oxford. After serving as a mail carrier he was asked to name the roads in rural Oxford. As a naturalist, he enjoyed spending time outdoors. Mr. Allgood is survived by wife Gloria Ray Allgood, Oxford, GA; daughter and son-in-law Caren and Roger Gibb of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter Betty Ann Killingsworth of Conyers, Ga; grandchildren Philippa Gibb, Matthew Gibb, Albert Killingsworth IV, Lena Killingsworth; brother Lorenzo Allgood of Gainesville, Ga; numerous sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Carl Samuel Allgood and Etta Allgood, son Ray Allgood and five brothers and one sister. Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday October 17, 2010 at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Dale and Rev. Thomas Johnson officiating. Interment will be for immediate family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Allen Memorial United Methodist Church general fund.
