Wig-wearing bandits who have robbed several banks in the metro Atlanta area since July struck again on Wednesday at a bank in Gwinnett County.
According to a press release from FBI Special Agent in Charge Brian D. Lamkin, two men in masks with handguns robbed a Wachovia Bank in Snellville about noon. Customers were forced to the floor and one of the robbers vaulted over the teller counter. One shot was fired into the bank ceiling before the thieves made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
They drove off in a Dodge Magnum, which was recovered near the scene and had been stolen several days earlier in Cobb County.
The bandits may be linked with the Aug. 26 robbery of the BB&T on U.S. Highway 278 in Covington. In that theft the robber was carrying a semiautomatic handgun and was described as a black male, 5-foot-6-inches to 6 feet in height, slender build, 140-180 pounds in his late 20s to early 30s. He was wearing dark blue or black clothing, a black Chicago White Sox baseball cap, and white gloves.
Wells Fargo is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the bandits, according to the release. Call the FBI Atlanta office at (404) 679-9000.
