After surrounding a home, Covington Police arrested an armed man at 10116 Griffin Lane with SWAT team responding Friday.

The SWAT team surrounded the residence, and coaxed the suspect out of the house with use of loud speakers. He was taken into custody without incident or injury.

CPD received a call at 9:35 a.m. Friday of a burglary in progress, and were able to identify the suspect as Marquis O'Neal Dyer.

Dyer had warrants out for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony and wreckless conduct stemming from a July 4 incident.

Dyer had taken himself to a hospital after being shot in the leg in the area of Green Acres on July 4.

From a July 5 CovNews.com article:

According to reports two men were exchanging words throughout the day, before one of them, the shooting suspect, went to purchase more alcohol with another male, a witness to the shooting.

The witness told an officer with the Covington Police Department that when the two got back to Pine Needle, the suspect allegedly removed a Glock model 19 handgun from his center console. He then reportedly began running toward the victim, who had been sitting on the porch on the side of his house, and started shooting.

The victim ran off the porch and fled around his house, according to reports.

The witness told officers the suspect went into the house and placed the gun in a room and fled on foot.
