ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta city officials, business leaders and others were on hand for the unveiling of Ted Turner Drive at Historic Spring Street in downtown Atlanta.

Officials held the unveiling ceremony Tuesday morning. City leaders earlier this year approved of renaming a roughly 1.5 mile stretch of Spring Street after Turner, a media mogul and philanthropist.

Officials say the move was meant to honor Turner's cultural and economic contributions to Atlanta. Officials say several of Turner's notable contributions to Atlanta — including the CNN Center, Turner Broadcast System and Ted's Montana Grill — are near the portion of the street being named after him.

Mayor Kasim Reed said in a statement that Ted Turner Drive will become part of Atlanta's history and its future. Turner said he was humbled by the honor.
