LAKELAND, Ga. (AP) — A south Georgia bus driver has been placed on administrative leave after a 5-year-old girl was left alone on a school bus for six hours.

Lanier County Schools Superintendent Keith Humphrey told the Valdosta Daily Times the girl fell asleep on the bus the morning of Dec. 12 and was crying when she was found hours later.

The girl's mother says she received a call that afternoon from her daughter's school saying the girl was found on a bus in the parking lot of a middle school.

Humphrey says the girl was examined by a school nurse and was back in class the next day.
