ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Former Georgia Gov. Carl Sanders has left $3.4 million of his estate to the University of Georgia School of Law.

Law school officials said Tuesday that the gift will be used to create a scholarship fund for law students and continue a faculty position that was established in 2002. They say it is the single largest gift in the law school's history.

Sanders died in November at the age of 89. He was a prominent member of the state's legal community and attended UGA's law school.

Sanders' wife Betty Foy Sanders said her husband felt deep gratitude to the university and the law school.
