Doris T. Mitchell Bowie of Covington, passed away July 16, 2014, at the age of 93. Mrs. Bowie was a lifelong resident of Newton County, and faithful member of Voice of Pentecost, in Covington. Additionally, she was a former member of United Pentecostal Church, where she served as youth director, the ladies auxiliary leader and Sunday School Teacher. Mrs. Bowie was a published song writer and poet, and proud member of the National Poetry Society of Who’s Who. She enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with those she loved. Mrs. Bowie was preceded in death by her first husband of 32 years, W.J. (Dub) Mitchell; second husband of 23 years, Roy E. “Smokey” Bowie; step-daughter, Mary B. Whittaker; and her parents, Robert C. Tankersley and Vadie Tankersley Parish.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Loyal Allen of Oxford; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Mary Mitchell of Hillsboro; step-daughter, Ann B. Mathews of Covington; grandchildren, Steve and Laine Mitchell, Elaine and Chad Daniell, Heather and Todd Cannarella; great-grandchildren, Ashlie Mitchell, AJ Mitchell, Caley Mitchell, Emma Mitchell, Bethany Daniell, Ryan Daniell, Mitchell Cannarella, Madeline Cannarella, Maxwell Cannarella; great-great-granddaughter, Khloe Mitchell.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Bowie will be held Friday, July 18, 2014, 11 a.m., at Voice of Pentecost, 4648 Salem Road, in Covington, with Rev. Gavin Moon officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park.
