KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) — In an abrupt reversal, Kennesaw's mayor says all four council members who voted to deny a mosque's permit to open in a strip mall have told him they now want to change their decision.
Mayor Mark Mathews tells The Marietta Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1wBK0HJ) that the four council members who voted to deny a permit for the Suffa Dawat Center approached him privately to tell him they'd changed their minds.
Matthews conveyed what the four council members had told him during a Wednesday night council meeting.
Now, if the city council on Monday opts to vote again, Matthews says the mosque's application would be approved.
The city council last week voted 4-1 against the request. About 10 protesters had gathered before the vote, waving American flags and signs saying "no mosque."
