MACON, Ga. (AP) - Macon Mayor Robert Reichert says he and the city's police department will redouble their efforts to curb violence after one 16-year-old died and four other young people were wounded in two separate incidents over the past week.

Arquentris Fountain, a student at Southwest High School, died Monday night after getting shot in the head in the parking lot at a birthday party at a shopping center.

Police said Tuesday a 16-year-old has been arrested in connection with Fountain's death.

Last Wednesday, two 16-year-old Westside High School students were shot. Police announced Tuesday they've arrested 17-year-old Trevarus Kendrick on charges related to the shooting.

Reichert held a news conference Tuesday and proposed addressing the issue with intervention and prevention programs. He says the recent shootings are related to gang activity.
