ATLANTA (AP) — State lawmakers in Georgia are planning to end their legislative year on March 20.
Lawmakers in the General Assembly set a calendar Tuesday for the rest of their legislative year. The House and Senate will not meet for the remainder of the week because of an approaching winter storm.
By law, the General Assembly meets annually for 40 working days.
Two big deadlines will approach next month. State lawmakers must generally get their legislation adopted by at least one of two legislative chambers by March 3 if they want their bills to have a chance to become law.
Any bills that do not pass by the final day on March 20 automatically fail.
Senior lawmakers said the calendar could be adjusted if the weather prevents lawmakers from meeting as scheduled.
