TUCKER, Ga. (AP) - Residents in a metro Atlanta neighborhood say they're on edge after someone shot a dog with an arrow.
Kirby Vanderyt tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/w4JKMJ) that she heard a blood-curdling howl from the yard as her family prepared for dinner Saturday afternoon.
Her black Labrador came running and she could see a piece of metal hanging from her. The dog was bleeding profusely, and underwent four hours of surgery to repair damage from the triple-point hunting arrow, a type used to bring down deer.
Vanderyt says her dog's changes of recovery look good, but she's concerned about letting grandchildren or pets outside since no one has been apprehended, and the arrow was a lethal weapon.
DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish says the county's animal service department is investigating.
