ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Demonstrators are planning a march in Athens in support of 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot by police in Ferguson, Missouri.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1rT4mos) that the University of Georgia NAACP and the UGA Office of Student Affairs Multicultural Services and Programs are organizing what's described as a peaceful vigil and march in honor of Brown.

The event is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the UGA Arch.

Tensions between police and the community in Ferguson boiled over into violent confrontations in August after a white police officer shot a black teenager. Protests turned violent again last week after a grand jury declined to indict officer Darren Wilson.
