ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta city officials have asked department heads to form action plans and preventative strategies for Ebola and other contagious diseases.
City Council on Monday approved a resolution requesting briefings from several departments including police, fire, aviation, parks and recreation, public works, waste services and watershed management.
Three American Ebola patients were flown from west Africa for treatment at Emory University Hospital and a team of CDC officials is now in Dallas helping investigate the first Ebola case to be diagnosed in the United States.
City officials say the legislation calls for Atlanta department heads to submit plans within 30 days covering how to protect city employees, contain threats to the public and provide necessary resources to address contagious diseases — like training, protective gear and decontamination procedures.
