NEWNAN, Ga. (AP) — Health officials say two students have tested positive for exposure to tuberculosis after about 150 students were tested at Newnan High School.
Hayla Folden, a spokeswoman for the state's regional health office, tells The Newnan Times Herald that the two will now receive further testing to determine whether they have latent TB infection.
Folden tells WSB-TV that the positive skin tests for the two students doesn't mean they have tuberculosis, but indicates that they've been exposed to it. She said the students are not contagious and won't be kept out of school, but will get chest x-rays to make sure there is no TB.
The testing was done after the Georgia Department of Public Health sent letters to parents, telling them that one student was suspected of having TB.
