Several Newton County Schools will celebrate Red Ribbon Week with a plethora of activities. A national campaign observed annually in October, Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and drug and violence prevention awareness campaign.

Cousins Middle School

Monday: Give Drugs the Boot. Students and staff dress up in western wear.
Tuesday: Being Drug Free is Always In-Style. Students and staff dress-up in professional attire.
Wednesday: Drug Free Kids Rock Pink. Students and staff wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
Thursday: Be Drug Free Through the Decades. Dress-up for your favorite decade.
Friday: Team Up and Put a Cap on Drugs. Wear your favorite sports team shirt and/or cap. Students must purchase a $1 ticket from the Counseling Center in order to wear a cap.

Live Oak Elementary

Monday: Wear Red and Bully & Drug Free Pep Rally. Wear red day. Each class will decorate their door with the theme One School, One Goal: Bully and Drug Free. Doors will be judged for creativity and a winner from each grade level will be chosen for a prize. Tuesday: Cap on Bullying. Wear favorite cap to put a cap on bullying and drugs.
Wednesday: Sock it to Drugs. Wear a crazy pair of socks to sock it to drugs.
Thursday: Shade out Bullying. Students wear a pair of sunglasses to shade out drugs.
Friday: We "Can" all be drug free. Students bring in a canned food item to be donated to the local food pantry. Canned goods will be collected through November.

Alcovy High School

Monday: Sock It to Drugs Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear the craziest socks they can find.
Tuesday: Boot out Drugs Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear their boots (cowboy, motorcycle, etc.)
Wednesday: Don't Let Drugs Turn You Day. Everyone is asked to wear clothes inside out.
Thursday: Krazy Hat Day. There will be a prize for the Kraziest hat decorated in red ribbon paraphernalia. Be Kreative!!!
Friday: Shade out Drugs Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear sunglasses.

Flint Hill Elementary

Monday: Book character day, assembly with Bo the drug dog and guest announcements by Officer Moore of Rockdale County.
Tuesday: Camouflage day. Be all that you can be drug free. Announcements by Juvenile Judge Mantz, view the helicopter, our peacekeeper (SWAT vehicle), clandestine laboratory vehicle, and a duty station McGruff the Crime Dog.
Wednesday: Red day. Announcements by First Class Petty Officer Dany Lamadieau, karate in the cafeteria, balloon pledge and release for the entire school.
Thursday: PJ Day. My dreams mean the world to me.
Friday: Team up against drugs. Announcements by Dr. Dennis Carpenter, fourth grade assembly from DARE Coordinator Corp. Wade Freeman.

West Newton Elementary

Monday: Take a Stand for a Drug-Free Land. Students and staff wear red, white and blue, red ribbons/stickers and safety pins will be distributed, students and staff will sign the pledge banner.
Tuesday: Team Up Against Drugs. Students and staff will wear any team jersey or sports attire or dress like twins.
Wednesday: Saying No to Drugs is No Sweat. Students and staff wear sweats.
Thursday: Sock it to Drugs. Students and staff wear crazy socks and pink to support breast cancer awareness. School-wide assembly.
Friday: Parade Good Character. Dress as your favorite book character.

Heard-Mixon Elementary

Monday: Awareness day: Go Red. Everyone should wear red clothing.
Tuesday: Give drugs the slip. Everyone should wear their favorite "bedroom slippers" to school. (Bring tennis shoes for PE and outside activities).
Wednesday: Twin day. Friends don't let friends do drugs. Everyone should dress like a friend.
Thursday: Hat's off to being drug free. Everyone should wear something (i.e. hat, bow, etc.) on your head.
Friday: Team up against drugs. Everyone should wear their favorite team or school shirt to school.

Fairview Elementary

Monday: Allow students to write their own personal pledges to live drug free.
Tuesday: Sock it to drugs day. Everyone is asked to wear the craziest socks they can find.
Wednesday: Red ribbon sticker and banner signing day. All students will be able to sign the banner to be drug free in the cafeteria.
Thursday: Red Rally Day. All students will be asked to wear red.
Friday: Team up against drugs. Wear sports jerseys of favorite team.
