A 53-year-old woman was arrested Saturday night after allegedly furnishing alcohol to a group of minors.
According to Newton County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Corporal Anthony Washington, a parent of one of the teens contacted 911 after she discovered her son intoxicated at the home of 53-year-old Julia Powell.
The parent had reportedly called her 17-year-old son’s cell phone and her child — who was out visiting a friend – did not pick up. After several unanswered calls she allegedly drove to the home of his friend which was located on Rosewood Circle.
After knocking on the front door and receiving no answer the parent allegedly walked into the backyard of the home and saw her son and two other young ladies, both 18, drinking along with Powell, who was clearly intoxicated, according to Washington.
After exchanging words with Powell, the parent contacted 911. Powell, along with 17-year-old Joshua Thompson, 18-year-old Chelsea Jones and 18-year-old Savannah Powell were all arrested and transported to the Newton County Detention Center.
Powell was charged with furnishing alcohol to minors and Thompson, Jones and Savannah Powell were all charged with underage consumption of alcohol.
